South Plains Fair Exhibit

HPWD provided water conservation information during the South Plains Fair in Lubbock. The rainwater harvesting display caught the attention of numerous fair attendees.

A number of items were distributed to the fair visitors to promote water conservation and raise awareness about the importance of preserving our water resources. A rainwater barrel, rain chains, and bags with water conservation items were also donated by HPWD for door prizes at the exhibitor awards ceremony.

Cochran County Playa Festival

HPWD staff members Billy Barron, Agatha Dettle and Jennifer McClendon presented at the annual Cochran County Playa Festival at Whiteface ISD. During the event, Education Coordinator Jennifer McClendon guided the students through a hands-on activity where they constructed their own aquifer and observed water movement through pumping and recharge.

Conservation Reminder

A lawn sprinkler spraying water on grass with sunlight highlighting the mist.

Remember to adjust your watering schedule for fall weather. Cooler temperatures and shorter days often mean that plants need less water. Be sure to water early in the day or late in the evening to minimize evaporation. For more tips on watering your yard throughout the year, HPWD offers the Water My Yard program.

Waste Reminder

Water flows from a hose onto a curb beside wet asphalt, likely indicating street cleaning or maintenance.

If you are closing your pool for the season, do not drain your pool water into the street, alley, or storm drain. Make plans for using this water beneficially, and practice wise water use.

 Administratively Complete Permit Applications

Bar chart showing completed permit applications by area for September 2024, with Cochran having the highest count at 18.
